Can art be touched?

There are many ways of feeling art, the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum gives the chance to enjoy it through touch, with the exhibition “touch art".

But how is it possible to appreciate a painting just by touching it? Through a technique known as didú, which creates textures and a relief of up to five millimetres to the paintings.

The main purpose of this program is to approach art to people with visual disability. At the same time, it aims to raise awareness about this disability. For this reason, the program offers masks for everyone who wants them so they can feel the sensory experience without using the sense of sight.

The pieces that you may find on this exhibition are:  The Annunciation, by El Greco; Saint Sebastian Tended by the Holy Women, by José de Ribera; Lot and His Daughters, by Orazio Gentileschi; Woman Sitting with a Child in Her Arms, by Mary Cassatt; and Lying Figure in a Mirror, by Francis Bacon.

If you want to visit the exhibition "touch art" you are able to until March 30th.
